Although we do not discuss specific call-outs or cases with the media, our work and our dogs are ocassionally the subject of educational news media reports from around the region.

2011

  • August 1, 2011 - Illinois Search Dogs and the McLean County Emergency Management Agency are excited to announce a new collaborative partnership.  Effective August 1, 2011, the operational aspects of Illinois Search Dogs (ISD) will become part of McLean County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). Read our press release here.
  • May 2011 - At the request of the Missouri Emergency Management Agency, Illinois Search Dogs went to Joplin Missouri with 5 HRD K9s to assist in the recovery  May 2011.  Thanks to Tri-State Search and Rescue for providing much appreciated field support.   • May 2011 - As reported by CBS, NPR, and in People Magazine, Kathleen Kelsey canine rescue specialist with the Missouri Task Force One search-and-rescue team, guides a live-find dog named ChicoDog (ChicoDog is also an Illinois Search Dog K9, owned and handled by Susan Vieth) after the tornado in Joplin, MO.
  • March 25-April 1, 2011 - ISD Team Members Missy Nergard, Joan Brehm, and K9 Sula participated in the First International Jungle Search and Rescue Training in Costa Rica.

2010

  • 2010 - Thank You to the AKC Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund for a grant of $3,491 to support our continued training efforts of 10 K9 teams. We are very grateful for the support and excited to pursue the important training opportunities that this will provide for us!   • August 2010 - ISD a finalist in the LRS Web Solutions BIG Website Makeover contest. We didn't win this one, but the folks at LRS made a sweet donation to all of the finalists and we send our heartfelt thanks to them for their continued support of ISD and other non-profit groups that serve our community!
