ChicoDog's Story
A Dog sat waiting in the cold setting sun,
Too faithful to leave, too frightened to run.
He's been here for days with nothing to do
But sit by the road… but waiting for who?
He can't understand why they left him that day.
He thought they'd pulled over to rest, or to play.
He's sure someone will come …and that's why he stays
How long will he suffer? How many more days?
His legs have grown weak, his throat's parched and dry.
He's sick now from hunger and falls with a sigh.
He lays down his head and closes his eyes
Like too many before him… this dog nearly dies.
I have slightly changed the original poem (written by Kathy Flood), to fit my real world situation. My loyal friend and partner ChicoDog was the dog in this poem. Christmas Eve 2003, fate caused me to drive by him, to stop, and to take him in.
In October 2006, ChicoDog and I became a FEMA Type I certified K9 Team.
We strive to be advocates for all the great bulldog mixes who need loving homes, a job, or just a chance.
